I want a new PowerSupply. I should have gone modular 4 years ago when I got my last one, but I don't remember exactly why I didn't. I'm ready for a modular power supply.

I want one in the 850W to 1000W range, just because ... well, if your going to do it, why not do it up big, right?

Here are the options as I see them:
SeaSonic 1000W Platinum at $220
Enermax's Lepa 1000W at $210
XFX 1000W ProSeries at $250
Kingwin 1000W LZP at $205

Is this a decent list? Which of them do folks recommend? Am I out of date on my products?

Well, if you're going to go big, go all the way big with those massive 1500 watt power supplies. Otherwise, be smart and buy what your computer actually needs.

What are you currently powering? What do you plan in the future? And are those future plans real (you have a goal and are working towards meeting them) or just fantasy?

If money is no issue i'd go with the corsair AXi 1200w otherwise i'd second Tsumi's opinion buy what you actually need and you have pretty good bargains in the form of seasonic X-750 or X-650 which is enough to power an SLI rig

also dont PSU's have an optimal utilisation range, and if its not using enough of its capacity its less efficient?

It still doesnt stop some people from wanting to buy the biggest PS for good ole e-peen!. hehe
Though isnt it totally [H] if I put a 1500W PS in a case for a HTPC with an atom dual core and IGP?! :D

Get a Seasonic,Antec or Corsair 750watt. If you're running what is in your sig. they should be fine.

Check out LEPA 1000W. Basically a rebranded enermax. Got one for $160 new at frys and it has fantastic reviews :)

Even with watercooling?

If you use the same number of fans as is available on your case, the only thing you would be adding in terms of power draw is the water pump. Normal computer water pumps are 25 watts or less.

I still say go with your suggestion on the 1500W! Maybe the OP will want to run some OC'd dual cpu, quad sli system! :D

Guys, I know its overkill.

Trust me, I kind of know what I'm doing. At least a little bit. This computer is a work-use computer, and therefore, is a business expense. I can justify the larger powersupply as a "future proof technology" and I can get a tax break for my business by spending profits to improve the business. These only count for expenses made in the calendar year you are filing for taxes. So for me, that means this year, before Dec 31st. I will be making some minor improvements to my PC for work use. One is a new powersupply.

I was hoping that this wouldn't be about WHY I needed it, but more about WHICH is the better option.

I guess maybe the better question is:
Which modular powersupply do people like the most? Which is the best for the money?

Im also looking for a modular 1kw psu.

The two most important factors for me would be efficiency and the cable sleeves, becuase easy to manage cables = better airflow.

Corsair AX1200, ENERMAX MAXREVO Series EMR1350EWT, SeaSonic Platinum-1000, XFX ProSeries P1-1250-BEFX.

I guess I would pick something like these if I needed the power. Efficiency, I dont know if its lower because you are not loading it much or not.
