Modern alternative to SpinRite?

[sphinx99]

Like others, SpinRite has saved me quite a few times over the years. However I am finding it to be less and less reliable on modern hardware. On some newer hardware (X58-based systems, P67 systems for example) booting is often unreliable and it doesn't always see drives depending on drive and controller. I also am unsure whether it handles advanced format drives properly. The website shows so little information vis-a-vis compatibility, recent version history that I am reluctant to buy a personal copy for modern uses.

Therefore, two questions,

1. Is Spinrite still relevant and functional against newer hardware? Is there a list of platforms or devices it won't work against, so that I can assess how useful it would be to me based upon the hardware I have?

2. If not, are there any similar products vis-a-vis extracting data from failing drives, refreshing the media with "fresh" signal, etc. ?
