My thread under general hardware got moved, to general hardware.

I posted it there, why would you move it to the same forum it was posted to! This is not the first time, I remember it happening before, and it's annoying that my thread says moved. Why are mod's moving my thread when I posted it there in the first place!

There was a re-direct left in the original GenHard forum. But when you click it, it takes you to the thread in the Vid Card forum. :)

No. It was moved by a mod from GenHard. I'm just an admin here. :D

It was about a vid card and belonged in the appropriate forum. I'm not sure why you want to make an issue over it.

just curious was it you that moved it?
I'm the culprit that moved your thread, please don't blame the Administrator. ;)

Quoting your thread here and highlighting in red the pertinent words; I got this crazy idea that you wished to talk about video.

However I do apologize for, " messing with your thread."

Kind Regards, Papa-Ming :)

I'm looking to buy a new video card for my system I built in 2002. The mainboard however is newer, I got it in spring of 2004. It's a 2.26 ghz northwood intel cpu running at 533 mhz fsb with 512 mb of pc3200 corsair running in dual channel.

for the longest time I used an old geforce 2mx!!! but earlier my brother gave me a sort of hand me down graphics card which is a geforce 5200, I think 128 mb.

I'm looking to get a new video card for my system that can handle a few of the games I like to play, and might play in the future. I've gotten into world of warcraft, which has some nice graphics, but even on low my system will go nuts in towns with a lot of graphics and sometimes it will get very choppy ( for some reason the hard drive will read a lot also). Sometimes,I will see only a frame every second or worse. Also several times, when I didn't have the graphics tuned all the way down, it would freeze and crash, when I tried logging into to a busy area.

What I want to do is buy a graphics card that will allow me to crank the graphics to the max and allow me to play smoothly. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think a 2.26 ghz should be fine in handling the game with a good graphics card, and it only get's slowed down when I'm in areas with lots of graphics. Eventually I may upgrade the cpu, to increase the fsb speed and reduce the bottleneck, or build another system.

I haven't been keeping up to date with graphics card technology so can you point me at a few that I should look at? I'd appreciate it.

Price isn't really a problem, but I don't think I'd want to spend more than $200.

I also forgot to mention I don't have pci express.

EDIT:

on the box recommended it says card such as NVIDIA Geforce FX5700 or above.. (although the specification seem very low.. like 64 meg.. 1.5 ghz cpu etc.) minimum requirements are even lower, but I never trust those things, because they just want to sell lots of the game. Still FX5700 is better than 5200 correct?? and that's only for "recommened" I want graphics on max.

I will add the comment that you will get a much better answer to your question much faster if you place it in the appropriate forum. We have some great hardware wizards here, but many of them only hang out in the forums they know the most about. A video card guru that will have a great deal of insight and helpful information to answer your question may totally miss your question if it stays in GenHard, but they are likely to pick it up in the Video Card forum. Moving the thread is a benefit to you.

Not to add insult to injury, but the rules are quite clear on threads:

(13) POST to the forum that is most appropriate for the topic being presented. Threads incorrectly placed will be moved or locked.

....and further down the rules list:

[H]ard|Forum reserves the right to edit, reprint, distribute, move or delete any posting for any reason and without prior notification or explanation to the author.
