For the past 6 months i've had a downgrade from connecting at 52k with my 56k modem to it being cut in half to 26k. I've tried everything to my knowledge to fix the problem. Any advice? I would also get broadband but im not eligible. So i'm kinda stuck in this situation and want to make the best of it. :(

replace the phone cord?

Have you added any other phones/fax/answer/call id/etc to your house in that period of time.

I would disconnect every other device from your phone line and connect then to see if the speed improves. At least you could determine if it was another device causing the poor connection speed.

Are you plugged into the PHONE port on the modem or the LINE IN/WALL port? Make sure you are in the LINE IN/WALL port.

Are there any electronic devices that generate a strong EMF in close proximity to your box or the phone line itself?

Have you tried changing access numbers? It could be that the number you are dialing is too busy or changed to be a low speed modem bank.

Good luck
