hey guys,

i have a problem with splitting the cable signal from the cable feed in

the wall to the computer and the tv.

i have been through 2 amplifying splitters and 3 standard splitters.

they work for a while, but after a few weeks, and in a couple of those

cases only days, but after that time, they crap out.

connecting the modem straight to the wall makes the modem and

internet function properly.

any and all help is appreciated!

thanks guys.

make your cable company replace your old cable with rg6 (they probably wont, but hey)

or you could probably do that yourself if you are so inclined. I made my cable company come out 6 times over a few months, and they finally did it (they never did jack till the last time, poor guy) each time I had a "loose" connector outside *cough* BS *cough* I just had straight up shiptastic cable line.

you may also want to get some extra cable filters for all lines not going to the modem. You can ask your cable company for those. I don't know exact model numbers or anything, have them come out and ask the cable guy if he can hook em up for you.

thanks very much! i'll see what i can do about that... i don't know if that plan will work though b/c my dad is anal about repair guys coming to the house =\. sigh~ what unfortunate circumstances. thank you again! i really appreciate the feedback! ^_^

I replaced all of my cable in the house with RG-6 when I installed the DirecTV. Go to the modem config page and ck your sig/noise ratio and verify it is in spec.

Running a cable modem after any amplifier is a no-no. Verify any splitter you use has no high gain blocker integral to the splitter, some do to clean up the pic, the only problem is it kills the modem signal also. Any attenuation/blocking filters will be listed on the packaging of the splitter.

Get a good quality two way splitter(the cable co usually has the best splitters, but most splitters will work). Your incoming cable goes to the 2way splitter and hook your cable modem up to one leg and then hook up whatever other amplifiers or splitters up to the other leg. If that doesn't work then it is probably a cable problem like the others have said. Usually the cable company will take care of the cable up to a certain point(demarc point) in your house, and they should replace that cable if it is bad.
