Mobo Toast?

I have a problem with a friend's computer. Here are the specs:

MSI socket A mobo
XP 1600+
256MB generic PC2700
GF2 MX400
WD 40GB HDD
Generic NIC
Generic Modem
PowerUp 350W PSU

The machine gives a series of two long beeps when turned on and will not POST. The monitor does not go into sleep mode after left running. I have swapped the video card with one that is known to work which did nothing for the problem. I have also swapped out the PSU and CPU with confirmed working units and the damnable beeping persists. The only other thing I could think of is the memory but I cannot swap mine into the system because I am running registered dimms for some stupid reason. When I popped open the case I was treated to one of the dirtiest interiors I have ever seen. Cat hair and dust caked onto almost everything. I am starting to think that the mobo is toasted. Is there something else I should check here? Your insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

I would try to get your hands on some memory, and test that out, if that doesn't work, I am sure you could always swap motherboards. Yours should work with his stuff.

I would take this system apart, clean it, put it back together and try again. After that you can do more troubleshooting.

Also don't forget to reset the CMOS.

Ahhh, I completely overlooked resetting the CMOS. I'll try that when my son goes down for his nap today. If that don't do it I'll start ripping the thing apart and deep cleaning, yay!

Try pulling the memory.
Does that change the beep code.

Luck........ :D

It was the ram slot. I pulled out the ram like tigerbiten suggested and got the same beep code. Moved the ram to another slot and it works now. Yay! Don't know why I didn't think of moving the ram to begin with. :p Thanks for the [H]elp guys, you rock.
