Im having problems getting the molex connector off the power cord to the mobo, like the big one. And i also cant figure out how to get it off the one cable that is 3black 2orange and 1red. Can anyone help?
the 6 wire aux plug can be removed with just a paper clip or an mini flathead screwdriver.. since you didnt know what it was just pop the lid on your psu and put the wire in there.. you might want it some day say, if you were to run a opteron or a xeon(mostly server mobos use it from the info i have gathered)
i looked at my 20 pin atx power plug and said.. nope..not doing that.. so i carefully ghetto'ed it with electrical tape and it looks fine/good but it could easily be done with heat shrink thats bigger then the plug but shrinks small enough to squeeze the wire
I assume you're removing the connectors with the intention of sleeving your cables no? If that's the case then you can sleeve it without taking the connector off, you just need to be extra patient and judicious. That's how I did mine.
yeah im trying to sleeve it. ive tried just putting it on over the molex, but wow its impossible.i had no problem with the other cables, but that damn mobo one is driving me nuts. Thanks for the help guys, ill see what i can figure out
i used a tiny flat head from an eyeglass kit... just shove it in on the side of each of the square connectors, you can see like a tab, try to squeeze it in, it will have one on each side... then just pull them out, push the tab out a little so when you insert it, it stays in place...
IMO the best way to [cheaply] remove molex connectors on the big ATX monster is to use a safety pin - good tensile stength & grip. Bend the top 1/8" of the point about 20 degrees. Pull on an individual wire, stick the pin down the hole between the plastic and metal to push in one of the two tabs. While still pulling fairly lightly, do the same to the other side. After some wiggling, it pops out. It takes a few pins to master it, but it works great. For the regular 4-pin molexes, it works well too - just don't bend any of the small tabs too far. The easiest way is, if you don't mind soldering, have desoldering wick, and already voided your PSU warranty, is just to desolder the wires. You could also mod it an put a wire block (or whatever its called) so you can add/remove wires as you see fit.
