Mobo doesn't detect SATA drive!!!

I have an Abit NF7-S V2.0 mobo with Seagate SATA 120Gb HDD...(see sig) anyways, I've assembled my new comp today, wanting to install windows XP but I was told it couldn't find the hard drive?! So I went into bios and checked and to my surprise the motherboard did not detect my SATA HDD. I checked the manual and I have enabled the SATA controller. Should RAID be disabled or enabled? it is enabled by default. I tried disabling it but it still would not detect the HDD. :(

Any suggestions?

You probably need to have RAID disabled AND set it to IDE3 etc. Then you may need the drivers during the OS install, in the very beginning.
 
I have an asus a7n8x-deluxe and I have to set the first boot device to SCSI. maybe that will help for you
 
That and unless you have an intel Controller You'll need to load the drivers for your SATA hardware on the opening Install screens for WinXP.
 
Dare I say RTFM?

Some BIOSes are different in how they handle SATA. For my Chaintech NF2 board, I had to set up each SATA drive in a single drive array. Remember the SATA chip is also a RAID chip so some may just call it RAID.

But - you also need to make sure that you hit F6 right away when you are loading XP so that you can load the SATA drivers. If you do not do this, Windows will not recognize the SATA drive. Even though it says "hit f6 to load SCSI drives" or something like that, that is what you do for SATA too.
 
Abit bios You have to go into the bios and manually enable SATA... its under onchip devices.
 
You might have to install SATA drivers frist, check your mobo and hardrive's manuals.
 
And are you hitting F6 to load the drivers when you're supposed to?

Right, you need to do this.

Right when it's installing XP it says "press F6 to load a third party scsi/raid controller driver" or something like that, you need to do that and use the floppy with the SATA driver.
