Mobility Modded drivers are slow?

I am an NVIDIA person normally (when I've bought desktop computers they've had indisputably better framerates, which matter most to me), but my laptop carries the flag of the red team. I have an X1300 Mobility with 64MB onboard (128MB via HyperMemory). I use Mobility Modder to make the latest ATI drivers run on my laptop. However, in doing so I added significant amounts of time to the boot process.

Windows complained in the Performance Information and Tools that one of ATI's driver components was causing a 39-second delay in the Windows boot process. Is modding drivers to use them with a mobility card not a good idea from a performance standpoint, or what?
