Just got a GTS 250 for my AMD build. When it's on it'll get some nice points. It's working on a 5771 at an average of 6400 ppd. :):):)
 
they also use less cpu cycle's than a 200 series cards. 3% vs 5% in my rigs
 
There is nothing I like better than the sound of cooling fans in the morning.

I like this card. It's a Galaxy GTS 250 without the usual stock cooler. It's pretty quiet and is a nice match for the little case it is in. Now I need to find a Phenom II 955 in the FS/FT forum.

Between your Gulftown and GPU's, how am I ever supposed to be able to catch up to you? :p

In all seriousness if this is going to be a pure GPU folding rig, why not just go with one of those cheap Athlon X3 or X4 cpu's I see at Micro Center? My 965 was able to produce 7-8k ppd doing pure cpu SMP only, and I wonder whether a 955 will be able to generate much once you load up several GPU's on it. Or what about going with a Thuban X6? Those are overclocking very well, and I bet that you could generate serious points in SMP even after loading up several GPU's.
 
I vote x6 too. For $200 you get 50% more cores which is an extra 4k ppd and only $80 more than a used phenom II x4. Think of it as adding another 9800gt for $80 that doesn't use any power (maybe 20W more when overclocked?). As a long term folder the ppd you get by upgrading is hard to beat for the power it uses. Plus there is the chance you could run bigadv.
 
I might have a 720 x3 up for sale if that is good enough for you. I'd like to upgrade to an x6 1090T but I need to wait another month. I might be able to scratch up the cash if I had my 720 sold. Btw happy mowing. Looks like you'll scream by me in about 2 days, tj.

I think you and amdgamer have me just about convinced with the x6 since the motherboard I have supports it.

Congrats! Anandtech seems to have a decent review of the Thuban up and he seems to think that it does well in heavily threaded applications. Since your motherboard supports the Thubans, might as well max it out, heh?

I have a feeling that once my gaming rig has outlived its useful life, it may make one wicken GPU folding machine with a Thuban in it.

Hey, just because my folding rig has an Intel in it doesn't mean that AMD still isn't my hometown sports team :)

Congrats and I can't wait to see what kind of overclocks you will get with it. I've never overclocked a processor with a locked multiplier before(except my i7 930), so i'm curious what is going to work for you. I would have went with the 1090T, but the 1055T could quite possibly be the best bargain in the cpu world from the overclocks i'm hearing about on it. I can just imagine the ppd this rig is going to do running your GPU clients on a single core, and folding on the other 5 cores!!!
