Hi,
I'm planning on building a mitx machine, and I need some advice on a case. I plan to get the Commell LV-674 board, which is this

board, but I can't seem to find a mitx case that'll fit it. I would prefer a cube case if possible. I would use a cheaper board, but I might wanna use it to help network render some stuff, so I like to keep my options open.

Everything isn't set in stone yet, I would just like to consider all my options.

The silverstone looks nice, but the no expansion card cutout would really limit that board.

I've looked at the cases at logic supply, the closest ones I've found were the Venus 668(the last two), but it didn't list the motherboard I want as supported.

Commell boards have onboard voltage regulation, so all you need to do is supply the power - except for that model. Venus is going to be the closest to a cube case. If you want to use that case, look at the LV-673 - supports a cooler running P-M.

Look on MP3Car forums, because they have alot more experience with mITX boards.

I emailed Commell and they said they're making their own case for it. They even sent some pictures. In the back picture, I believe they have a video card that is parallel to the board. Is that done through the use of riser cards?

Yes. ...but riser cards basically defeat the purpose of a mITX board! May as well go mATX. Unless you do reverse riser cards, which should be mandatory accessories.
 
I really wish MITX stuff would get better...It really is at the point of where Shuttle was back in 2002
 
I definately agree steeeeve. That original board is amazing for it's size, but so expensive. (smaller size = more money). I hope somebody starts seriously ripping off Shuttle's designs, but just sell the case.
 
Size really limits the expansion slot capabilities which most people would have issues with. Right now, they are mainly targeted at auto and marine applications.

With reverse riser cards, you can solve the expansion problem, but there is still the power issue. Dual cores and GPUs that consume nearly as much are going to require a honking chunk of copper. A Shuttle-sized SilenX PSU might be small enough to squeeze into a 17x17x17 cube, but cooling requires space and if you don’t have space you have NOISE.
