Bought a Sapphire x800 Pro PCI-E flashed the bios to get XT but got an SE instead. Played around with it and I was able to oc to 550/560 stock cooler. Even with only 12 pipes it still scored ~12000 in 3dmark03 and ~5700 in 3dmark05
Fast forward to today and I still wanted 16 pipes so I try to flash it to a Pro with 16 pipes but failed miserably. It would not boot so I returned it and picked up a Sapphire x800 XL PCI-E but only OCs to 430/535 stock and I get ~9900 in 3dmark03 and ~4800 in 3dmark05. My question is did I make a mistake and should have gotten another Pro?

3D Mark isn't necessarily an indicator of performance. The X800XL at least has all 16 pipelines. Even though its clocked significantly lower, it should still provide better performance as it has more pipelines. Simple as that.

Try out some games and do some game benchmarks. Find out if your X800XL is performaning as it should or not. If not you may have a driver issue or some other problem. Because the X800XL should kick the X800Pro's ass.

I forgot to mention the Pro is $100cnd cheaper. I'm using the newest Omega drivers. I have Doom3, HL2, and Far Cry but have no idea how to use them for benchmarking

Those #'s equate to about same performance with your radeon x800pro and the xl. At least the overclocked speed is

I'm just curious where you're seeing the Pro $100 cheaper. Everywhere I look it seems to be $50 to $100 more, with the XL being around $400CND. If you've found a $300 Pro I'd like to know about it :D

www.memoryexpress.com (only in Calgary and Deadmonton tho)

Sapphire X800 Pro VIVIO PCIE $349

Sapphire X800 XL PCIE $449

I just ran a Doom3 demo1 benchmark and found that the XL ran it faster (47.2 vs 38.2) so that makes me happy.

One odd thing is the one picture in the ad is different from the one I got. The PCB is red instead of blue and the fan is bigger than the on in the pic.
