Just to chime in on the i7 with smp -7 vs -8, I've got mine at 3.9ghz, tpf on a 6900 with 2x 460s folding at smp -8 was a 48:02 tpf, with smp -7 and the 460s tpf is in the 37 minute range - it varies a bit. YMMV.

To be honest, once long ago, I was part of the 2cpu RC5-64 team. I started folding instead of working on RC5-72.

Wow thats a huge improvement. Are you using GPU tracker and if so how do you apply this argument to the client?

in the additional command line argument for the config

Mine reads:
-forceasm -local -verbosity 9 -smp 10

or you can put it in the shortcut to FAH, not sure how to make this work under GPU tracker, but you could edit into the Client.cfg file and that would work fine.

look for the part of the file that reads:
extra_parms=
and shoehorn the command line arguments you want right after the =s and prior to the next config variable.

I recently switched to -smp 7 and my TPF went down by about 2 minutes. In addition, my TPF used to go up while I used my PC, and now it seems much more stable.

obviously wfeather answered most of your questions. but most of my information is based on some testing we did last night in the irc channel and some one else on the team that did some testing(forgot who it was) a while back running various SMP X settings and with HT on and off running the smp client.

Interesting Monkey...I just set my 6900 to run @ SMP 7 with the affinity locked to cores 0-6...Set my 460 to run on Core 7 only...Will report back how this affects PPD....

thats a shame, 2CPU was always a great resource... I made/read many posts over there over the years
I contributed a fair amount over the years there myself. It's sad to see a good place go down like that.

Yah I loved that place. But alas it has gotten so you cant even get into the forums half the time. So I think people will be leaving like I did. Had a great run there though. Nice folks too.
Do you know what caused or contributed to the decline? Was it server problems or an inexorable migration to other fora such as this one?

Mine reads:
-forceasm -local -verbosity 9 -smp 10
OOC, why the -local flag?

Because If I don't folding makes a bunch of crap file in my profile.

I have a dedicated 160GB drive for folding..... and I want folding to put the files THERE, not where it thinks it wants to put them

2CPU has some hardware problems I heard. Trouble is not many folks seem to even frequent the place any more. That and you can't get logged into the forums half the time and I had to finally bail. Sorry to see.

Up to 16K points so far today and up to 3882 position and climbing.

The rank flies by as you pass all the ghosts of folding past, it seems to slow down quite a bit once you hit somewhere around 500

Late to the thread but welcome rick5127!

It's always tough to see a forum/website go stale over time. I've seen a few in my time.

Thanks again for all the welcomes. They are very much appreciated.

Passing the 3000 member rank and working my way up...

I have/ had a similar setup to yours and I went up 8800 places in the first month (it does feel good). Just go careful! once you get a taste for it, you can become addicted.

hehe.. well been doing this a while... had 13 million over at 2cpu before I came here.

I once had 9 duallies running here in my house. Addiction? I aint got no addiction. lol

2800 to go...

Back in the day, 2CPU.com had the highest average PPD/member of the major teams or close to it. At that time, multi-socket machines were a relatively rare novelty, and multi-core chips were new. Most people on that team were running at least 2 clients per system and the team was producing a respectable amount with considerably less active members. Things have changed on so many levels since those years.

The grass starts to get taller around 500 or so as you said.

The jungle comes in around 100.

Congo top 25.

Ill have to try this smp-7 how do i get both gpu's to stay on the 8th core as one uses 7 and the other uses 8. Rick Welcome aboard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well just passed into the top 1000, now the going is probably going to get tougher...
