how do i set it in FireFox to that the middle click button opens the link on a new tab.
 
It doesn't do this by default? I think mine did. Type about:config in the address bar and look for the 'browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick' key and change that to true. I can't guarantee that will work but it looks like it should.
