Microsoft has announced a new Vista SP1 test build dubbed "Windows Vista SP1 RC Refresh 2." Microsoft says the new version is in the hands of its 15,000 beta testers but is not being made available to the public yet.

The product is still on track to be finalized this quarter, Microsoft said, while offering its standard caveat. "The final release date is based on quality, so we will continue to track customer and partner feedback from the beta program before setting a final date," the company said.

I've heard this one removes the expiration branding on the desktop, and is simply called "SP1" when installed.

I believe we may have the final animal here, sent out for final testing before release.

Wonder what else they changed. refresh 1 wasn't very large so I don't see how they could have fixed much. Then again, I haven't seen any issues with the orginal RC that they released.

The last refresh has been rock solid for me and I have definitely seen some improvements around networking behavior on my wired gig-e home network. Not sure what else they need to address.

I can't get any of them to even install. They still have serious issues they need to address.

Its in closed beta right now, so I'd assume that if your keycode is not on the list it may not let you install.

RC1 is on microsoft's site for anyone to install. Just the current version is in closed beta.

ferrisnox, what happens when you try to install?

I don't see why they didn't just use RC1, RC2, etc.. instead of the 'refresh' thing which makes it all that more confusing.
