Microsoft Update + Group policy?

Hello all,

I currently administer about 50 computers under 1 domain. I was curious about using a group policy to force Microsoft update to automatically download and install updates at a specific time. I'm nervous that the computers are not currently downloading the updates (they are set to automatically download/install them at the windows default 3:00am)

i'm a desktop technician and far from a server admin but i know the lingo! any help would be appreciated.

I would work with your server admins to setup a WSUS server. has good reporting and will allow you to manage the deployment and testing of patches.

You'll flood your network with traffic if all the PC's are downloading patches at the same time.

Another thing to ponder is the reasoning of downloading all patches. It's a bit unnecessary.

I would definitely advise going the WSUS route.

yeha, plus you can forceinstall and then verify by looking at one web interface instead of visiting every computer.
