This questions been in my head for some time but is MS and IBM the same company? If not, what does IBM do now? Just wondering since IBM seem to be a bigger/popular company then MS was. :confused:
 
IBM is the originator for the "PC", most comps we use today besides apples are what used to be called IBM compattible. IBM makes hard drives servers etc, MICROSOFT is a software company that makes the windows series line of operating systems. Two very different companies :)
 
Microsoft and IBM are seperate companies.

IBM has a foundry, they do cutting edge research, produce chips for many big companies, make hard drives, mice, keyboards, configure computers. They pretty much have a hand all over the hardware business.

Microsoft sells software, and also put their name on some external devices, such as joysticks, mice, keyboards etc. They also publish games, windows, office, etc.
