Microphone Problems on my Shuttle

I have a shuttle SN95G and I just got a new Sennheiser headset. I have no problem with playback on the headset, the sound is great, but i feel like the microphone isnt as responsive as it should be and even with the mic volume all the way up, it still takes a lot for me to get good quality and volume. On my other computer (with a sound card) the headset sounds great and the microphone is awesome. Do i just need to buy a sound card for this comp just so i can get good microphone levels? Any help would be great.

ps. I am plugged into the front of the computer because I could not for the life of me, get the plug labeled "Line-In" in the back to get any response from my mic. Thanks guys.

I own SN95G5 and Sennheiser PC130 (that I've won on some Lan Party :) ) and I have no problems with it.

There can be few things going on. One is Mic boost in mixer. Secnd is mic volume ion a applications self. Third is a plug or a calbe between Mic Plug and mobo. You could also use Realtek sound driver.

So check settings and check plug and cable (internal cable connecting plug and mobo).

Also quality of sound depends from application to application. Like speaking in CS doesn't realy qualify as good Mic quality. MSN talk either. Skype is a good test as well as Voice recorder of Windows it self.
