Microphone problem

So my mic sounds fine, but when I try to use it in CSS, Ventrilo, or even sound recorder i have around a 5 second delay. This happened on my last system too, I have tried 2 different sound cards and 2 different headsets, still the same problem.

Anybody have any ideas? I appreciate any help, this is the most annoying problem I've ever had

heh weird. if you open up the basic volume control window and un-mute the mic, do you still get a 5 second delay?

some other system specs might help too

Sorry, I have a new AM2 system with a Philips Acoustic edge sound card.

And yes, my microphone was muted but only on the output side
