micro atx PSU question

that A+GPB/Athena isnt a no name brand
Ive heard some good things about them (as a brand) but not in here
even though its a 450W it still only has 19A on the +12V rail
you need to work up your numbers
the Ultra draws about 4.3A and the 3400 about 7.4A on the +12V rail
add in another 1A static draw for fans and HDD already spinning and another 2A to spinup an optical,
your around 14 to 15A, so how far the supply gets derated for temperature is going to make a huge difference,
(generally I deduct a third making that approx 12.5A @ 40C)
unless your able to keep it at 25C or so (likely what it was rated at)
which is highly unlikely this side of Siberia

so if you manage to hit full draw on the CPU & GPU then spinup an optical
and the temperature is too high....

thanks. I will buy this in a couple day then if no more reccomendations come in.

I'm a little bit confused by your response.

Ice Czar basically told you that if certain conditions are met then that PSU will not cut it yet your response is to just disregard his advice and buy anyway. Why did you ask for advice if you're just going to disregard it?

Unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations of my own but from what I've seen, Ice Czar is as knowledgeable about PSUs as just about anyone in here, maybe you should heed his warnings or at least wait for more advice/recommendations.

you said it right there. I didnt disregard what he told me.. i have no choice but to buy it.. there is no other power supply even close to 450 watt for microATX. I just wanted to know if more people had a clue as if there was a better psu.. if there was i wasnt gonna get this.

thanks for the feedback, so you guys think the is better than that 450 watt?

Hi Folks,

I purchased the power supply mentioned by the initial poster. Just to add my 2 cents to this thread, this is the finest micro atx supply I have ever seen. Nice heavy steel case and solid construction. Super quiet also. It's a bit pricey, but, I think a quality supply is worth it personally. I would highly recommend it.

Thanks,
Mike
