Mic not working?

Recently I tried using my mic and I cant seem to get it to work, I know it works because I tried it on my laptop. I thought my internal sound was messed up so I put a cheap sound card in that I had and I still cant get the mic to work. Im thinking it might be some setting in windows. Can anyone help me out here?
