Memory speed

My sys:
p4 1.9 Ghz (No HT)
512 MB DDR 400
mobo: Asus P4P800 Deluxe

Allright, so my memory runs @ 266 Mhz and I don't have the option of setting it higher, when I know my board can do 400 MHz... Is this cause of my CPU being sorta old?

I had first gotten this CPU with rambus memory, but I recently changed it to DDR, cuz getting a new board ans DDR ram was cheaper then upgrading from 256 to 512 MB of ram.

You really should spend some time reading about memory speeds. Your processor runs on a 400 Mhz bus...which is really 100 Mhz. You probably have your ram ratio set to 4:5 (FSB:MEM), meaning your processor's bus is 100 Mhz and the bemory bus is 133 Mhz. I don't think any boards have any ratios that let you go higher than 4:5. If you want to be able to run your memory at 400 Mhz, you'll need a new C-class P4.

I don't know how many times it's been said on here (which you probably missed since your new), but always break the speeds down to "actual", not the quad pumped and double pumped, etc.

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD get the new p4, why'd you spend the money on the pc3200 and 800fsb mobo when you are going to run it at 266?

yeah! I am planning on upgrading my cpu.. Take it easy bobmanfoo.

I allready had this CPU, so I could get it up and running faster that way, and make it a progressive upgrade instead of forking the money all @ once.

The other 512 (2*256) is also comming up.
