No, not the other kind of enhancement.

I've been helping test an alpha of 7zip, (www.7zip.org), 4.3 x64 Alpha 5, and it includes an enhancement based upon 7max, made by the same guy, Ivor Pavlov or something like that.

Anyway, it uses 'large pages', which CPUs deal with more efficiently but I guess OS's are fickle with. I personally get anywhere from a 10 to 15% speed improvement from using Large Pages as opposed to normal ones. It's a little tough to gauge, since each page is 2mb and fragmented RAM makes it revert back to small pages I think, but still.

I somehow doubt file compression and gromacs have a lot in common, but I've been wondering if anyone else has ever tried this to see what effect it would have on ppd.

If nobody has, then I might try. Only thing that'd stop me from using it in my day to day is scattered reports of instability, but worth a try, maybe..

I think the main advantage would be for when F@H accesses RAM, but does it do it that often or is most of its work held in cache and only occasionally going to RAM?
 
Okay, guess nobody has tried it :D

I'll be bored this weekend, so I'll give it a try and post back if results are interesting, like better than +5% with no other stabilityor performance oddities.
 
try it i'll be interested to find out your results we need our own vegemite compound to use agains the aussies;)
