memory bandwith question

Im just curious but if my memory is running in dual channel and I have it overclocked at 220MHZ then shouldn't I theoretically be getting a memory bandwith of 7.04GB/s?
But why is it when i benched it on Sandra I'm only like 5GB/s?
Shouldn't stock PC3200 be doing 6.4GB/s?

Oh, by the way I have it overclocked synchroneously with the cpu at 1:1 for better stability, though its making my RAM timings really loose at 3-4-4-8. I'm using the ASUS noob overclock utility that gets my 3.0 up to 3.3 at 10% overclock. I can do 3.5 manually by lowering memory bandwith and getting a 5:4 ratio, but it won't run completely stable on 3D app software like Maya, but it may also be unstable because of the ram where the CAS was lowered from 3 to 2.5.

Well I guess I've digressed enough. :D
Any opinions, help and suggestions MUC[H] appreciated.
 
just my 2 cents, but I'm always willing to trade a few mhz of speed for lower RAM timings. Remember that bandwidth isn't the only factor that comes into play in your system, the delay in getting data to the CPU is also important. When the CPU needs a piece of data, it needs it asap :)


(disclaimer: I'm arguing about a difference of maybe 2% in a benchmark, not something you'd probably notice.)
 
Your using a P4 system, so timings are quite as important. Bandwidth is the biggest issue. Run a few different tests with different software. Then compare your results online to others with similar systems. Also double check your BIOS is configured properly.
 
You need to forget the bandwidth and change your divider to 5:4 and overclock that way. Timings are more important than bandwidth especially since you have plenty already. Are you using Kingston HyperX or some king of Kingston Value RAM?

Running 5:4 isn't going to make your system less stable. You may just need to up the vcore and or vdimm to get it stable at 3.5Ghz and tight timings. The fact your using 4 DIMM's could also affect your ability to run the best timings.
 
Well I am using the Value ram which are stock timings at 3-3-3-8. And its strange because in the Bios the settings for the Vcore start at 1.6 and go higher (1.7-1.8 etc.) So I'm a bit worried about tweakin it too high. It goes the same for the Ram. My stock ram voltage is supposed to be 2.5 and I have it set to auto, but if u manuallly tweak the voltage it starts at 2.55 and u can only go up in tenths (2.65-2.75 etc.) and that seems like a lot. Well, I'm trying to sell my ram to get some enthusiast ram, cause i accidently bought ECC which i can't use on my mobo, because I read in Sandra that anything over 1 gig should have ECC.

I understand that asynchronous ratio is fine in a quadpumped p4 system, but after reading the article above on memory it said that with dual channel and ddr u have 2 64 bit controllers and that combined with DDR 400 should yield an ideal bandwith of 6.4GB/s. Now perhaps those calculations and the most ideal and with very low timings, but I don't get those numbers on Sandra. Just wondering what others can bench and if my results of around 4 GB/s is correct for my PC3200 DDR @ 3-3-3-8 or 2.5-3-3-6 timings.
