I have a A7n8x-e deluxe and I have 2 sticks of 256. On the mobo there are 3 slots, 2 close together and a third a little ways away. Does it matter where I install the 2 sticks?

I dont understand the memory configuration chart from the manual.

Thanks,

cb

Those manuals aren't that confusing for dual channel setups. I believe the two closest together are one channel, and the thrid one is the other channel, but check the manual....it should be clearly stated.

Look in your manual to see which slots are to be filled in order to enable dual channel.

It doesn't really matter though whether or not you get dual channel enabled because it isn't worth a crap on Athlon XP boards.

I would try to get them in the right config anyways though and enable it for whatever slight performance increase you'll get.

I do want to run it in dual channel mode. I'm not sure why I wouldnt want to but Im new sooo...

Basically, does the word "populated" mean thats where I have to have a stick present to achieve a given configuration?

thanks

Yea to "populate" means to "fill". So whichever ones the manual tells you to populate for a dual channel configuration then thats the slots your sticks the DIMM's in.
