Measuring max ram usage + swap file

What do you guys run to measure ram usage? Is there anything better than Task Manager? I recently upgraded to 1gb ram and I want to see how much of it I actually use.

Also, according to Task Manager I have 143mb of page File usage. Why am I even needing to use the page file with 1gb of ram? Thanks
