I was looking for info on the 7200.2 hard drives (like price, where can I get one, and when?) and though I didn't find anything... The Seagate site has a section of info about Maxtor hard drives.... Are they the same company now? Have they always been? Does anyone else in here hate Maxtor with a passion? I have only had 3-4 hard drive ever fail, and all of them were Maxtor. I've only had 1 hard drive be DOA and it was a Maxtor. I don't ever want another Maxtor drive. I suppose it is possible that Maxtor is just Seagate's cheap line, but more likely they just purchased them because Maxtor is much more widely available in the retail circle. But, I am becoming full of surmisation and suppositions... Anyone know for sure?

i'm interested in if the substandard quality is a thing of the past since Seagate bought them out. its been what 6-8 months since it was announced....maybe longer?

Maxtor = Cheaper
Seagate = More Expensive

I haven't heard many claims of maxtor brand's going bad so you should be fine with maxtor, i think they extended the warrenty quite a bit on the maxtors also so that's a plus. I wouldn't have a problem buying them.

There never was "substandard quality" over the whole brand. Some DiamondMax 8's (IIRC, it's been a while) had problems, but like the "Deathstar" thing, it got blown out of proportion. Maxtor still made fast, high-quality drives. Seagate drives with an M in the name are actually Maxtor drives, but this isn't a reason not to buy them. I owned 3 Maxtor disks for a year and a half and load on them all the time with no problems at all. Like most drives, power them well, cool them well, and nothing will go wrong.
