How high of temps can an Opty 170 withstand for daily operation? vCore is at 1.55 and I hear that I should aim to keep it under 1.6. I think I can get more MHz without upping voltage...
Maximum safe voltage for daily use, IMO is 1.55. Especially on that Opteron. Sure you can go to 1.6 or even 1.65, but only if you're on water.
As for temperatures, anything under 55 load will be fine, but possibly unstable. You really need to get under 50'c if you're OCing on the Athlon 64 platform, if you want any sort of stability.
OK I have heard varying opinions on that..."Watch the temps but as long as it stays under X degrees the volts don't matter" or "Watch the volts AND the temps" Honestly I'm confused as to which is correct. I don't really care about "shortening the life of the component" as from what I understand modern processors will last more than 10 years. 10 years from now this rig will be LONG gone from the gaming scene.
