Making a Second Hard Drive the Default Programs Drive

My girlfriends new computer has two hard drives. The first and main one is a 80gig WD that is split into one 15gig part and one 65gig part. The other drive is a older 30gig maxtor. The drives are labeled C (15gig part) D (65gig part) E (30 gig Maxtor). I was wondering if there was a way to make drive D the default programs hard drive (one games and things install too) and make E her default data drive (my documents). Any help would be awesome.

If you double-click on My Computer and are set up to Show Common tasks (the blue bar on the left) you should be able to right-click the My Docs folder and change it's destination to whatever you want. That should set the new location as default for any program that tries to access it.

As to making things default to another drive on installation, something tells me there is a way, but I haven't experimented with it. It easy enough to tell programs to change location when they install. This is what I do.

That said, there are numerous tweak programs (TweakUI and Xteq XSetup) that can change many many functions of windows operation. You may want to look through those and see if you can find anything.

 
It's in the registry. Something along the lines of HKLM\System\Windows (or NT) \.... fuck, gimme a day and I'll have all the keys for you. I'm on a linux machine right now so i can't just look them up. Either way, you can move the default program files directory, as well as stuff like your profile. I did that so only windows was on one partition, while everything else (profiles, programs, swap, etc) was on the other partition.
 
My wife's old HP was setup in exactly this way as default from the factory. I have dug through and cannot find a way to do it. If someone figures this out, I wanna know. That way, I can use my Raptor RAID0 for OS and OS ONLY. Then, if it breaks, I can just rebuild the array and not worry about much.
 
Kinda got the My Documents, but its still not the way I'd like it to be. I'm not there all the time when she'd want to install something (mind you, she is very good at knowing how to take care of the computer) so I cant always point it to the right drive. I'm still looking at a way to make all programs install directly to drive D.

My ideal set up for it would be for whenever she installs something (lets say Counter Strike: Source) for it to automatically want to install on drive D. It'd be awesome if it was the only option that even appeared to them, I'd like to keep drive C for only the OS and because it has so little space it cant handle anything more than what's on it.

Any help would be awesome.
