Makeshift epoxy? Superglue...

Hey.
None of the places around here seem to have Arctic Alumina Adhesive or anything like that. I need to get a heatsink back on the northbridge ASAP (it fell off).

I seem to recall people dabbing a tiny bit of superglue on the corners of the heatsink, and putting arctic silver in the middle and squashing it together... and letting it sit for a while.

Did my mind just make this up, or is this possible?

Yeah it will work...

Make sure you lap the heatsink too it will improve surface contact.

Generally it's the northbridge that'st he culprit of bad contact, most northbridges i've seen are pretty concave. Superglue will work fine, though.

i made the mistake of taking epoxy and mixing it with arctic silver.. i practically ran for my power switch when i saw my gpu's temp going up fast past 100C

reflecting upon this this was stupid from the start.. what makes arctic silver work IS the fact that it doesnt harden this was when i was a noob to modding and the like tho

I heard doing that is the best way to go in attaching things
though I mixed AS5 and the AS epoxy to attach my ramsinks. I used 1/4 AS5, and about 3/8 + 3/8 the epoxy mix. They hold fine and seem to cool great too

NB's are fugly. I lapped mine because the stock heatsink and AS5 barely contacted the corners, and nowhere else. Now has a nice Swiftech MCX-159 sitting on it.

Anyways, for my ram/mosfet/southbridge sinks, I put a very small dab of super/krazyglue in 2 opposite corners of the chip with AS5 on the rest, then pressed the sinks on. Tried the stock thermal tape at first with the mosfet/southbridge sinks, but they fell off! Had to do the glue+AS5 trick with my whole watercooling loop in the way. VERY not fun. Has now crossed a whole province (1100km) on semi-bumpy roads and it's still perfect.

put it in a deep freezer so it was sub 0 and pryed it off with a screw driver... it was before i had the balls to slice the ihs off
