Please guys help me out.

I just got my:
P4 3.4 LGA775
ASUS P5AD2 Premium
Antec NeoPower 480W
ASUS N6600GT
Corsair 1GB DDR2-533
Maxtor DiamondMax 120GB Ultra ATA/133


I get this message when its about to install XP

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Windows XP setup cannot continue.

For 2 DAYS i have tried everything possible, but no luck! :confused: :confused: :confused: :mad:

not to familiar with this board (guessing it has ide raid though.)

if that is true, are you using f6 to load the raid drivers
 
I have a few questions first.

1. What do you have the Bios settings at for the raid? Since you are putting a single drive on the chain....I believe you have to change a setting in the Bios. Check this page from the [H] and see what I mean, it is about half way down.

2. How is your hard drive jumpered? is it on cable select? single? master? slave?

3. If you are using just a single drive does Windows still make you load up "third party raid controller drivers", I remember seeing that when I installed Windows, but I skipped it because I don't have raid.

Sorry, but that is all that I could think of. :(
 
By looking at the diagram, you connected your HD to the ide RAID port and like the previous users have said you will have to push F6 at the very beginning of the setup to load the RAID driver for your controller.

Otherwise, you should be able to put your HD as a master and your CD as a slave and connect them both to the IDE port that your CD is currently on. The only bad thing is that your CD and HD will be sharing bandwidth which isn't bad unless you are using both at the same time.
 
Windows won't recognise the HD because it has not been given the RAID drivers for the motherboard. Like stated above, hit F6 when the first blue Windows Install screen comes up and wait for it to ask you for a driver's disk.

It doesn't sound like you intend to run RAID so I would plug your HD into the Pri_IDE slot as Master and your CD Rom as Slave on the same cable.

guess what?

my hard drive is toasted, i opened it up yesterday brand new and it does not work

stupid maxtor

i'm gonna put in WD 20GB had in it right now and hope fully it will work
 
ok for 100% my Maxtor hard was not working

i just puted the WD20 in there to see if it will work, but it gave me the same error? :confused: :confused:

i'm not gonna bother with it anymore, i already got one F in my math class because i was spending all my time on it, now i officially give up, gonna take it back to Comp shop.

about 20 ppl come and took a look it, no one can find the damn problem

i was so excited about it when i bought it, i was saving up for it for over a year!!! now i'm completly dissapointed

(I think i'm gonna change my major into "Manual Maker for General Stuff", and make this damn life a lil bit easy for future humans) :p
 
Did you try hitting F6 when prompted to load the RAID drivers as suggested? I know its silly after being suggested so many times, but 2 drives?
 
i hit F6, it say put a disk in drive A:\ (floppy) and press enter

what disk should i put?

I have the Windows XP 6 Boot Disks, i put it in and press enter, it does not recognize :confused:

with my HD nothing come, no manual, no disk
with my mobo, only 1 CD came

no driver disk what so ever



I just put that asus CD in my other computer, i opened it up

I made a disk from it, presse dF6, put it in....again...did not recognize :confused:

when you tun on the computer, it does not make any sound, nothing!
 
change your boot order so it checks for a cd-rom first... then put the cdrom in... then reboot.

it will boot to the cdrom.
 
Uhm...yeah, I am thinking those RAID connectors need drivers if you are going to run anything off of them. I think the problem you're having is that the CD-ROM drive is using the only available native IDE controller on the chipset. Those RAID controllers are separate from the native IDE controllers and probably require additional software to activate.

The 925x chipset only supports one channel of IDE natively, but does support 4 SATA drives (? correct me if I'm wrong) natively.

Your choice here is to run your hard drive as master and your CD-ROM as slave on the PRI_IDE connector, or get a SATA drive.

Also, make sure you have a power connector connected to the hard drive. I know it's basic, but when troubleshooting, you start with the easy things and work your way up.
 
First things first, go into the bios, and look at all the IDE and RAID settings, and disable raid if you do not have 2 equal drives you want to use as RAID.

Other then that.... its eaither a dead IDE channell on the motherboard, which seems unlikely.

Or, Ten to One, the jumper settings are messed up. You showed the back of the hard drive, but you did not how the pin configuration for the drive.....

I had this same error when trying to install win2000 on a hard drive, which has multiple jumpers on the back pins of the HDD. Windows 98 accepted it, but win2000 would'nt.
So all i Did was take away the extra jumpers that the previous owner put on (or the manufacturer) and windows found the drive.

Now you just need to do a little guess and testing with diffrent hard drives and ide channelles and bios settings.

On a side note... you said you "opened" the maxtor hard drive......

How did you know it was broke..... and did you actually physically open it up by taking the metal cover off it? (if that's the case, you may find it hard to return if the warrenty is void).

no i didn't took the cover off, i just opened it up from its original packing. (i'm not that stupid :p lol)

just few minutes ago i put that Maxtor harddrive in my old dell computer, on the desktop on the right bottom side it said that it found new harddrive...i was like what!!??!?! then i ckicked on My Computer, there is nothing???!?

Tomorrow i will check all the above mentioned...if then no luck, i will take it to a shop

I think he is refering to the opening of the package that it comes in, not the actual hd.....at least I hope he is.

when you add a drive to a computer and it sees it as plug and play, you have to reboot when it says your new hardware is installed before you can see it. It is most likely a driver issue

I installed the harddrive while the comp was off, then i started it

i have been to that website many times today, those some drives that i need are on that my CD, i made the disk, it did not help

it does not get recognized
 
after looking at the pin configuration for your drive http://www.maxtor.com/_files/maxtor/en_us/images/general/documentation/jumper_settings/style_a2.gif

it seems as if you have it correctly set to cable select. Then this means that the jumper pins are in the correct position.

If you put it on the same IDE ribbon as the CD-ROM drive, and it detects it, then you know you must install the RAID drivers.

yes, and when you booted it, windows reconized it right?

then you must restart and partition it before you can use it
 
After reading this guy's priblme, which is like my exact same problem, i solved my problem.

I have a Asus P5AD2 Deluxe motherboard and a Ultra ATA hard drive. On this board, I only have 1 Primary IDE connector. I can't hook up a single CD-ROM with my HD because the cable isn't long enough to reach from one drive to the other after connecting it to the motherboard. (The IDE connector just happens to be up where the CD-ROM is located) However, even if there was a way, I want to eventually add a DVD-RW drive, which means I'd have 3 drives to hook up with only 1 IDE connector to do it with. I haven't been able to find a cable that either supports that or is the length I need it to be.

So is the only solution for me to buy an IDE adapter card for a PCI slot?

or is there a way I can simply plug my hard drive into my IDE Raid connector with having only 1 hard drive?

OR is there some other solution???

I have TWO drives, 1st one is DVD burner and 2nd one is CD burner
and i have my hard drive....and they all are IDE

and on my mobo i hav eonly one primary IDE connector, so i have to connect all my 3 things to that, since there is no such cable to connect all 3, i just connected my hard drive and the CD burner.....and right now i'm installing Windows XP

and I dunno where the hell should i do with my DVD burner...i need it!!

WTF was ASUS thinking? :confused:

there are two more 40-pin connectors...but they are damn useless!!!
 
They were thinking SATA is the wave of the future and if you needed the extra IDE slots you would have read before purchasing
 
if i exchange this IDE for sata, will single sata work by connecting here:

EDIT: i was gonna get Raptor 10K hd which is Sata, since my friend placed the order, he thought that $180 is too much for HD and replaced it with this maxtor IDE
 
I wish I found this thread earlier but it looks like I might of been too late and I could of saved a hard drive.

WinXP does NOT like the RAID IDE ports on the P5AD2 (The Red Slots). It will only find HD's on the Primary IDE channel (Black slot). I had the same exact problem when I loaded XP on my machine for the first time. What you have to do is use one of ASUS cables with 2 channels and put the HD has the master and the CDROM as the slave and it will work fine.

my two Cd roms are connected to IDE and the HD is connected to the Red slot

it works!
