My friend's computer hasnt been working they've been getting a ntldr missing error , and so far nothing works ... the recovery disk may work , however they really want the information thats on the drive. so

"update" - apparently the guy tried the recovery disk , but it failed.....so im assuming the drive has been compltley deleted , however there is 42megs of space used up ..any chance the files would be on there ?


i have it hooked up as a secondary master , and it will be recognized in win xp .
any help on this one ? .... would it matter if i made it the slave on the primary ?
 
As long as the HDD is configured properly and recognized by the BIOS and Windows, it's fine.

If the HDD is recognized by Windows, and it's formatted as NTFS or FAT32, then you should be able to read the drive's contents.

If you can view the drive's contents in Explorer, but it appears to be empty (part of the HDD's capacity is taken up by the filesystem), you might be able to use file recovery tools, some of which are listed in the FAQ (sticky at the top of this forum).
