Major compatibility oversight

I think it's going too far to say that AMD ruined the product. And it's somewhat unfortunate that this is growing as many legs as it is. But the decision is completely bizarre and makes one wonder how these things get overlooked, or what is even going on over there at AMD.

It's more frustrating for me to see how you have to nearly pull teeth to get any kind of information about AMD's products. Like when Qualcomm announces their latest Snapdragon they'll go on and on about all the codecs and resolutions and encode rates and everything else that's supported. AMD = crickets.

Just keep in mind it's not AMD's fault that these people bought a cheap-ass $200 monitor with 1 connector type.

I bought a Samsung UN65HU8550 during the 2014 Thanksgiving shopping crush with a sale price of $2,299.99 + tax so you're off by a factor of about 12. It was one of the few 4K screens that would accept a full 4:4:4 60fps input over hdmi last year.

When I upgrade from my trio of water cooled 7970s, most likely later this year, I will want to be able to plug the new SLI or Crossfire array into that TV because some things just look so much more impressive on a 65 inch screen. My TV would be laggy enough without trying to use some sort of active adapter. Similarly, waiting for Samsung to release a display port configured evo kit (for $3-500) is not in the cards. Being unable to natively display full color at 60 fps would be significantly negative factor in my upcoming purchasing decision.

He's talking about one thing, you're talking about another. Dropping DVI is defensible. Not including HDMI 2.0 is inexplicable.

The budget brand that doesn't take budget oriented consumers into account hahahahahaha.

Hahahah hahahah

No seriously. Hahahhahahha

No really I cannot get over this. We should see if AIBs add extra ports. Not sure how easy it is to go up a rev to 2.0 though.... I would assume it's not so easy and built into the chip? I would of thought AMD would of said something by now.

These people bought cheap (price-wise) monitors with 1 connector. Maybe they should have spent an extra hundred to get one with DP so they wouldn't have to get a $100 adapter

you're so ignorant and condescending it's causing me physical pain. the monitor that you're talking about was the only one of its kind and better than EVERYTHING ELSE for YEARS, and there is only ONE like it on the market today by a big-brand manufacturer, and it was only introduced a few months ago. holy shit dude, please. furthermore, there is no dvi -> dp adapter that can do 1440p at 120 Hz, so an adapter is out of the question for these particular monitors.

HDMI to dvi is acheap connector. Use one on my tv and have no issues though I don't game on it.

Thats no use for 1440p @ 60Hz+ or 1080p @ 100Hz+.
They need Dual Link DVI.
That connector you use can only supply Single Link DVI.

There is no way to convert HDMI 1.x to DL DVI, it doesnt have anywhere near the bandwidth.
Thats why DL DVI is so useful, it does what HDMI couldnt.
It effectively incorporates 2 HDMI 1.x leads (with no audio) in one DVI port.

The other problem is that even if they make a DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter it won't support HDCP 2.2 which required for 4k Bluray. Also the question of: Will the adapter work with the Oculus Rift which uses HDMI 2.0?

As long as I know I can get an adapter shortly after getting the card that will let me play games 60fps at 4k via HDMI i don't even mind if its not hdcp 2.2 I plan to buy a 4k bluray player later this year anyways. I can deal with 1080p on my TV for a short while and mostly play on my 34" LG while the adapters come out.
