magnetic waves from sub causing problems

My 8" JBL subwoofer (car sub) is sitting under my computer desk. Its 3 feet underneath the motor.

Every time the bass gets strong, the whole monitor screen warps and turns green and purple. At first, I thought the bass was rattling the monitor and doing it from vibration. Ive played Glen miller (Jazz), Zztop, Hendrix, it does it most on jazz when the bass is a really low frequency.

No. I took the sub out of the box, and set it on my pillow, then turned it up to where I normally play music. The screen is still freaking out.

What Should I try? Im not going to move the sub. This is the best place for it.
 
If it keeps up long enough it'll permanently damage your monitor, i've seen it happen to crt televisions and the results aren't pretty.

Gonna have to shield the magnet on that sub somehow.

Sry i'm not knowledgable enough to help, anybody have any suggestions for him?
 
well, technically speaking, it's a magnetic "field", not magnetic "waves"... :p

you CAN shield it (using a compensating magnet and some type of iron sheath)... it's not easy, and probably not worthwhile... your better (only?) choice is to move the sub (how do you KNOW it's in the best place under the monitor? did you plot a frequency curve with it there vs. other places?)...

the "good" thing about magnetic fields is that they tend to be directional (except in highly unusual circumstances), so a slight movement might have a large effect...
