I'm having a problem with win 2k not seeing a compatible partition on an IBM SCSI DDYS-T36950N hdd, even though I can go into the recovery console and format it as either NTFS or FAT32. It's in a fiery server that I want to convert from NT to 2K. Another person says they may have locked the drive to where any other OS can't be installed. The SCSI controller is an embedded Adaptec AIC-7896 on a Tyan Thunderbolt mainboard. Does anyone know if low level formatting with the SCSI controller will damage the drive? If so, is there a free utility to low level format it without damaging it? I already checked IBM's website and they don't have anything on there for this hdd. Thanks

Youre scsi controller should be able to low level the drive, low leveing won't damage hte drive, but you will lose ALL information on it.

I doubt you'll see any benefit to low-leveling the drive. Doing any more than blanking out the first few sectors (MBR/Partition table) is a waste of time.
