low 3dmarks-did I screw up something while installing?

First things first; these are the scores I get with my system.
47xx-3dmark05
95xx-3dmark03

Rig:
Intel 630 (3ghz)
512MB ddr 400mhz ram
X800Xl
Cat 5.4 drivers

I just got a Dell 8400 and installed an ATI X800XL and I followed the guide on how to compleley wipe out the drivers and reinstalled everything but my scores seem kinda low. My load temps never exceed 72 and I'm guessing my ram or processor is holding me back but even then, most people seem to score much higher than me. I know that some people say that 3dmark is useless as a judge of performance but I own no demanding pc games with which I could benchmark with and so thats why I rely on 3dmark. I have however, installed the doom3 demo and fraps shows that I get around 60fps at 1024x768 on high quality with 2x AA.
 
It looks like your RAM is holding you back quite a bit, get another 512mb. Also, your processor might be holding you back slightly, but not much, but it still is. Not worth it to upgrade.

edit: Those scores, I think, should be able to get past 6000 in 05, with 1gb ram and if you OC it a little bit. Use powerstrip. I like it for it is easy to use if you are new, and very stable. I think it is powerstrip.com Just google it. (It's the same $30 software Alienware sells)
 
that seems about right. my 3200 winnie and PCI-E 800XL w/ 1gb of ram at stock did around 4700. when i OC to 2.5 and card to 445/555 i got 5400 in 3dmark05....

Doom 3 is capped at 60FPS so you could probably increase the resolution and filtering.
Also your card temps are a little high, your temp should be in the low 50's when idle and the high 60's when playing a game.

The average score for a X800 XL is 5,209 using a sample of 19 cards.
The average OC for a X800 XL is 444/540.
 
Yeah really those temps seem kinda different then my 8400 system.
Load temps never go past 67c.
Idle is 38-41c Never higher.
More ram and oc the card.
I got 5154 with o/c card.
6000? HMM sounds like fun. What more can I do though...
 
I think I have screwed something up, for some reason, NFS Underground doesn't run over 50fps when I turn all details up and at only 1024x768. This doesn't include AA or AF.

Also I get dips into the low teens while playing the Doom 3 demo...

Any ideas why my card is underperforming or am I just expecting too much?
