when i had my athlon 64 3000,i got 7200 in 3dmark 05.I just installed a athlon 64 3700 (754 pin), and jumped to 7340.i feel i should of gotten a bigger jump, and that im still really low compared to most with my system specs.here are my specs below.anyone got any suggestions on what to check to see if something is off?

Epox 8NPAJ Nforce4 Motherboard

BFG 7800gt Overclocked to 461 core/1.13 memory.

Athlon 64 3700

1 gig (512x2) corsair value ram.

Maxtor diamondmax 10 sata harddrive.

Windows XP Pro

Soundblaster Audigy 2 Value.

I agree I think you should have gotten a higher jump at least 500 points. Excspecially since 7800 series are so cpu limited

What PSU do you have? could that be the problem?

How hot are your temps? this could also affect the results, but they would have to be pretty bad.

How old is your Windows install? Is is bogged down with old programs and stuff? Is your HDD more than 75% full with "Stuff"

Oh, and did you look at your drivers? are they up to date? even the BIOS?

my windows install isnt that old,and i keep it very tiddy. my harddrive is about 160 gigs free out of 250 gigs. my psu might be an issue, its an enlight 430w,and has 18a rating on the 12v rail. could a psu cause low 3dmark scores?also,i just updated the bios and have 78.03 drivers.

another note on the ps issue...my mainboard has the new 24 pin connection, but ive only got the 20 pin connection.maybe this is why i get graphical glitches sometimes along with low 3dmark scores due to not enough power?

Well, I am not an expert, I am just repeating what I heard/read somewhere, but yes a weak PSU will cause problems. Search/ask in the PSU forums, some guys are really anal about PSU quality and you may find exactly what you need

Looks fine to me. Aside from the PSU issue. Get a good PSU, like a Seasonic S-12.

And a 3000+ can take advantage of a 7800GT in games just fine. Your are not going to gain tons of frames with upgrading from a 3000+ to a 3700+.

My score with my venice at stock and my venice at 2.6 jumped about that much. OC'ing the X850xt is what gave me points and extra fames.

a 7800GTX only gets about 7800 or so marks in 3dmark05. His score is fine for a GT, how did the suggestion that his PSU could be faulty come into play? 400mhz isn't really that huge of a difference to show something dramatic in 3dmark05. To test cpu get something like Sisoft or run a few games.

I got a 7950 or so in it with a 4400+ and a GTX, I wouldn't worry one bit, Ignore CPU bottlenecking that thing is a GPU sucking whore.

It didn't really come into play as far as scores are concerned. But it would be a decent idea for him to swap his enlight 430w with a pretty crappy 12V rail for a better unit. This would help him down the road considerably as far as upgrades are concerned.
I had a old Thermaltake 430w in this system and it couldn't make it stable.
