Loud DSL modem...

As the subject says, believe it or not, my DSL modem is annoying. Ok, it's not really "loud" per say, but, I can hear it, which is pretty amazingly loud considering I shouldn't hear anything at all... And please understand that I'm not referring to over the phonelines, believe me, I have the filters properly installed, so I don't hear it on the phone lines, I mean I hear sounds directly from the actual hardware box. The way the sound occurs kind of reminds me of the way a HD sounds when it's loading except that this is MUCH higher pitched and doesn't sound so much like the churning noise HDs are so famous for as, well, something else. The main reason being that when it's "loading" (eg downloading/whatever) is when the sound occurs. Firstly I want to know why the heck my modem is audible. No moving parts should mean no sound with normal hardware like that... Anyway, is there any way to quieten it up? It's rather annoying. I'm not going to cover it with a bunch of stuff though because it always shocks me just how hot this thing can get. I even set it on top of one of those large heatsinks you find in the central part (subwoofer box with amplifier/etc) of computer speaker systems from my previous system (found a use for that peice of crap system after all.) And, besides, it has those slits in the sides that means the people who made it intended for it to have some vague hint of cooling. Any ideas? If nothing else, I just mainly want to know why the heck a DSL modem is audible...

BTW, I don't know if it matters which one it is, but it's the Westell "WireSpeed" Model A90-210030-04 Rev E for whatever any of that stuff might mean to anyone.
