I am currently running an evga 8800gt. I was thinking about getting a 4850 or a 4870. I will be running Windows 7 beta 7068 build x64. My specs are listed in my signature. My friend had 3 4850's and he said he kept getting BSOD when running Vista x64. Can anybody give me any advice?
-thanks:)

Go for a 4870 or 4890. A 4850 won't be the biggest jump in perofmrance.

how about 4890 ? to call it upgrade you must at least buy 4870 sapphires toxic models are best strongly suggest them other than that may be xfx cause of lifetime warranty

I'll go 4870 unless i can find a 4890 for under 200 i'll pass. But i am worried about the drivers

The drivers are the same (relatively speaking) as the Nvidia drivers. they have their problems just as Nvidia has their problems. If you go with one card, you should be fine.

Personally, ATI Drivers have always been better for me than anything put out by Nvidia.

But i never had driver problems. i've had 178-202 drivers and nothing just incresing its preformance. But i read everywhere 64-bit drivers have many problems

six in one hand and half dozen in the other. vista drivers are pretty much stable now and both red and green have their issues,

I have used both a 4850 and 4870 in vista ultimate 64bit and windows 7 64bit with no issues at all.

i was there when he kept getting BSOD's and i saw no reason why he did. Either way ima try my luck with ATI:cool:

Do you guys know from where/who i can get a good deal for a 4870 1gb or 4890 under 200?

there is a good deal ati 4890 in hard deals - Sapphire HD 4890 - $216 F/S

I really won't recommend Sapphire..

been encounter too many problem with that brand, and not just me but with others also...

I would suggest XFX, ASUS, Gigabyte from my experience.....

Sapphire/HIS/PowerColor is the main 3 brand that I really suggest people not go for...

not just warranty problem, but bad experience problem over the board itself....

ewiz.com is selling XFX 4890s for $217 shipped after a coupon code. Limit one per customer though.
