I'm not getting much out of my Radeon 9700 128mb card and really needing it replaced by something somewhat better, but not really extreme as I'm on a budget of no more than $250. I play Everquest 2 and a bunch of offline games, most of the offline games go fine except for Doom 3 and newer games I have, but with EverQuest 2 I constantly get jerkiness in the game even if I have settings at extreme performance settings. I've done various updates and checked for hard drive problems and other things so I came to the conclusion of that my video card needs to be upgraded badly. I'd go all out and get a high end agp video card, but I'm on a budget as I mentioned earlier and also plan to buy a whole new computer around in a year from now anyways. Anyone have suggestions? I'm kinda wanting to go nvidia also.

Doing some research, For the price range you will have to go with a 6800 128mb. You possibly could pick up a used 6800GT for around that price range if you are lucky.

Ditto. I just recently bought a BFG 6800 oc from zipzoomfly. 269$$. Also comes with far cry. I can run Doom 3 with all of the filters on full tilt. You should be able to with most 6800s. Get the riva tuner to unlock your other masked pixel pipes and shaders. peace Oh i forget to mention you need ram. I run with a gig. 6800 gts are still in the 370 range.
