Hey, my uncle wants a new HDD but he doesn't need a big one. I think he was only using like 5 gigs in his old 40gb drive. I was thinking one of these from Newegg:
WD 40GB drive, ATA100, 8mb cache - $65

Maxtor 40GB drive, ATA133, 2mb cache - $58
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=22-140-133&catalog=14&depa=1
and what's so special about this drive? why does it cost as much as the 40GB ones and it is only 20GB? it doesn't seem to be faster

I was thinking I should go with WD since it has 8mb cache, but the maxtor has ATA133. Is there a greater difference between 8mb cache and 2mb cache than ATA100 and ATA133? If so then I think the WD would be a better choice.
Also, I read about some program a long time ago that was made for Maxtor drives. It would speed it up a lot I think. Is that program any good? if it is would that make the Maxtor drive worth getting?
If you guys know any other places where I can possibly get a smaller drive, or I can get a fast drive at a lower price please let me know.
Thanks
