i am currently running a core i7 920 system with a evga x58 motherboard, 6 gig ram and nvidia 260gtx video card. Right now i have a OCZ 750watt gamexsomething power supply, however i need to have my computer in the bedroom and it is super loud primarily due to loud PSU. I am looking for something quiet that will run my current rig and that i could possibly expand to a 2nd 260 video card in the future.

WOuld 550-620 watt units be enough? Anything in particular you could recommend me?

i7 with 260SLI & NO OC'ing should draw about 400W, almost all of it +12V amperage so about +12V@ 34A.

Of course OC'ing can increase power consumption by about 10% to 30% & we always want a 30% overhead for cool & quiet operation,
so about +12V@54A is recommended, a "known good" 700W or so PSU.

As Seasonic is the "King of Quiet" & quiet is the primary request:

If you can afford one, the MD12's are the "Kings of Quiet"!

Always Build with the Best.

thanks for detailed feedback.
after everything i ended up ordering a refurb 550W seasonic. Could not resist the low price of the unit, and i thikn for now 550W should be enough.

With a max combined of only +12V@41A, it will be running very hot & noisy & it will NOT be running 260SLI!

Please learn Wattage is a meaningless form of measurement in selection a PSU,
the amount of current on the "stressed" rails is what counts & your +12V rail will be very stressed.

For cool & quiet operation a max load of 70% or less is always best. 60% being preferred!

If you ever go SLI, you can always add a FSP X3 GPU Booster PSU.

Very Poor Choice, you asked the questions & then ignored EVERYONE'S answers.
