Looking for an additive

I'm looking for an additive for distilled water. To combat corrosion and whatnot. Im going to get some UV dye also, if it is safe to do so. So can someone point me in the right direction of what to get?

I heard water wetter is good can I buy it locally at maybe an auto store?

you can get water wetter at a local auto parts store, and it works so far as cooling goes, however it turns most kinds of tubing a milky white colour.

valvoline zerex coolant additive is great stuff, doesn't usually colour plastic or anything else, and you can add dye over and above it. it is also available from auto parts stores, however i had to special order mine. 10% zerex, 90% distilled watter is tried and true. it also protects from corrosion, and it's poisonous enough to take care of most microbes.

Plain old Low-Tox Anti-Freeze (Propylene Glycol) works just fine and is safe for you and your pets too................ Been using it for years and it's cheap to, just mix 5-10% for systems with all copper blocks and radiators and say 15% for systems with mixed metals (aluminum).

What color is zerex after its been mixed with distilled water?

I usually just mix some radiator fluid with mine... makes it a nice green but i don't think you'd be able to dye it after that. I've used the HydrX before from swiftech, that stuff works well too but isn't worth the $4 you pay for it IMO.

What color is zerex after its been mixed with distilled water?

unattractive pinky-purple, best covered up with a few drops of dye. blue of purple dye work best, naturally, however i'm sure that you can get it whatever colour you want, with a bit more dye.

zerex and water performs better than straight water. antifreeze and water performs worse than straight water. regardless of how pretty it is, how does this stuff perform? probably about as well as antifreeze........

If Zerex and water performs better than straight water, I doubt the difference being more than a degree. Zerex, Water Wetter and other "super coolants" do cool noticeable better than water - at temperatures above 200*, the temperature most of the products say the tests were conducted around.

Water Wetter has a nasty reputation for breaking apart plastics, especially notorious for leaks in reservoirs. Zerex has shown to be fine with plastics, its what I'm using once I get my loop plumbed and ready to go, along with some algicide (had some around) and a couple drops each of highlighter (UV reactivity) and food coloring or another dye if I find something better.
