I have a Logitech MX-500 mouse which I like very much and it performs perfectly in everyday applications and games. However, I don't really like the ergonomics as I don't feel very comfortable holding it so often I feel slight pain in my hand after long periods of use. Seeing as most MX mice have the same shape and the MX1000 is too expensive to me, I was thinking about the MS Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0. Supposedly, it has much better ergonomics than Logitech however there is a couple of things I’m worried about. I love the feel of the “short travel” main buttons on the Logitech. Are the main buttons on the Microsoft different? Also, how much of a difference am I going to notice going from a corded MX-500 to a cordless Explorer 2.0? I'm just a casual gamer so I don't really mind if it's slightly worse for games but is the difference in precision going to be noticeable? How bad is the lag? I don't really need a wireless mouse but I thought it would be nice. Or should I just get a corded Explorer? What do you guys think? Thanks.

I'm needing a new on pretty soon, I'm gonna get anothe rmx500 though, i love it

i've got the mx700 and its great, wireless gaming has never been better. Wish i got the mx900 though for bluetooth.

Just saw the MX518 at zipzoomfly. Roger - you can also try the Razer Diamondback.

Thanks, but Razer mice are mostly made for gamers, right? I've never tried one but they don't seem to have good ergonomics either. The new MX-518 seems nice but it has basically the same shape as my MX-500 so that's not an option either. I'm insterested in Microsoft models since every single review points out that their new Explorers have the best ergonomics off all mice. I'm just worried of it's tracking and precision capabilities. One review says the report rate is only 85Hz, the other say it's actually 110Hz and Tomshardware say it's 100Hz but the "difference between that and 125Hz on the MX-700 is not noticeable". I tried setting the report rate to 80Hz and the difference is pretty big compared to the default setting that I use (100Hz). Does the MS Wireless Explorer feel that way too? If only the MX-500 had better ergonomics, I would be perfect :(

I've tried a trackball once and it was just too weird to replace a mouse. I don't think I could ever get used to it. I'm surprised that no one ever complains about the ergonomics of the MX mice. I guess that's just my hands that are different or something like that.

I just got a mx duo with the mx700 mouse, I hate it. Hurts my hand after long periods of use, i'd much rather have my microsoft intellimouse explorer back. Logitech's ergonomics suck.

just the opposite for me

A lot of the problems with ergonomics and mice have nothing to do with the mouse itself and everything to do with the placement of your hand and wrist. You might want to look into an ergonomic wristpad or altering the way you grasp your mouse for a more ergonomic fit.

With that said, I don't have a problem with any of my Logitech mice.

I tried everything. I tried an ergonomic wristpad, I tried holding the mouse in various different ways. It just isn't comfortable enough when I hold it. It wouldn't bother me THAT much but I feel a slight pain after longer periods of use which is no good. I had no problems whatsoever with my old el cheapo no-name mouse that I had before the MX-500. I'd get the MX-1000 because it seems that Logitech improved the ergonomics (actually, it's shape now kind of resembles the MS Explorer mouse) but it costs too much. Since there is no responses about Microsoft's wireless technology, I'll probably just get a corded Explorer.

I was happy with the ergonomics of the wired explorer. I have a wireless explorer 2.0 and dont really care for it.

So, you wouldn't recommend a switch from the MX-500 to Wireless Explorer 2.0?

Must be your hands. The first time I used a MX mouse was the MX510 at Nerv and I love it. Feels so nice in my hand.

Why not get like the MX-300, or something that follows the designs of the earlier logitech mice. I have both that and an MX1000 and while I really like the old design, I have found myself becoming accustomed to the feel of the MX1000, and it feels weird without the nice cradle for my thumb.

The wireless technology in the Wireless Explorer 2.0 just seems laggy. The MX700 and MX1000 is much better.

Do you guys think the MX1000 is worth the money? I tried some Razor mouse, don't know which model was it, and didn't like its ergonomics either. Are there any real problems with the MX1000 except for the delay when you lift the mouse and put it back down? Also, how many colors do these mice come in? This is the standard one: http://colafab.free.fr/mx1000triple.jpg

This one is called "midnight black":

But on some websites there is also a picture of this one:

...and they call it "midnight" too. Is this a third version of the MX1000 or this is actually the midnight version? I thought the midnight one was totally black (which is what I want) but maybe it all depends on the angle at which the pics were taken? Does the midnight version have that silver... thing on the right button? Can anyone clarify this please?

MX1000 is completly worth it and there is no lag/delay to speak of.
Thanks. Do you know anything about available colors that they come in? I'd order the black one but I'd rather have a standard version if the black one looks like in the third picture.

I've actually never seen the black one, but that just looks like glare.

You're see the reflection of the light box in the third picture. Its all black.

Yeah the MS wireless mouse tend to feel laggy in fast paced games, but I would trade any mouse for another Intellimouse 3.0A wired, if I could find one.

My last one died last summer, and I could not find one to buy, so I am using an MX510 right now and its decent. I can't use the new Intellimice from MS even though they feel better on my hand, I can not get over the non clicky scroll wheel.
