Looking for a new display cause.. im getting sick and tired of using my older hdtv as a display for my computer.. i mean heck.. i'm only able to use a resolution of 1366 x 768... I'm looking for a fairly large display.. 24"+ higher resolution the better.. I would like to go higher than 1920x1080 but seems after that point.. prices get jacked up..

I mostly play games and watch movies on my computer... soo.. i was thinking i'd probably go with a TN panel..but was having a look at this.. and was wondering what other people thought of it:

says 1ms response time.. i figure that be good for my gaming.. but other than that.. not sure what else to look for.

That's a TN panel, isn't it? At that price point, it probably is.

18 months ago I bought my first decent display : I paid $460 for a 27" professional dell display with a PVA panel (a big step up from TN) from ebay. Crucially, it still had remaining warranty - don't buy a used or new monitor from ebay if it doesn't have a manufacturer warranty. It was 1920x1200 resolution.

The best quality and best looking displays use IPS or PVA panels, not TN. In practice there's no noticeable or easily measurable difference in response time between modern displays - whenever TFT central or anandtech reviews one, they find that there's about the same amount of ghosting and that no display has an actual 1ms response time except for a CRT (which only applies if the CRT were scanning that line and doesn't factor in phosphor lag).

So, as display enthusiasts, we're telling you to get a higher quality display. I just paid $444 for a 24" display with 1920x1200 resolution that uses an IPS panel, the dell u2410. Should be here Tuesday. However, for a lot of folks, a TN display looks ok (and they are ok for most things, I use a laptop with one and it's usable) and they are substantially cheaper.
