Looking for a decent case

Hey, I'm trying to find a decent case for my computer that I'm building this summer. I've been looking on newegg and tigerdirect, they both seem like good sites to order from, and I haven't been able to find a decent case that is under 80 dollars and has a blowhole. I guess I could make a blowhole myself, but I'd rather have it already there. Since I don't know any good case manufacturers, I've just been searching randomly. Any ideas?

Best cases available, imho, are Antec - the quality is excellent - they can be had in your price range, including shipping. Yeah, I like 'em... Inwin are good as well, most are ripe for modding.

As for the blowhole - there's debate on if they do anygood, but that's up to you. I don't think Antec has any with a blowhole. Chieftec might.

Best thing to do is to go to NewEgg.com, go to cases, and then use the search feature - setting a price range, size, color, window or not, and see what comes up - they have what seems like 1000's of cases available form basic beige to fully modded. Most blowholes already cut will be 80mm - if you want larger, you'll have to cut it anyway.

You can pick up a "decent" case for $30 plus shipping, my daughter did and she ended up tearing it apart and starting modding it recently. I would base your choice on how much modding you want to do, or not and the overall quality you are looking for too - and then it all boils down to personal preference :) - Like my wife's case, and Aspire Turbo with blue LED's, window, LED fans etc, it's pretty, she likes it, but I doubt I'd get one for myself.

Peace,
Tim

Thanks...I looked at the Aspire cases already and I don't really like them. What I really like are the Chieftec cases. As for the blowhole, I don't see how it couldn't do any good, because its taking all that rising hot air that gets trapped in the space in front of the psu and removing it.

Yes, But in theory it is also ruining the airflow running front to back. That is what the debate is. Now a duct mod going up to it would yield good results.

the only argument I've read regarding the blowhole is that is "can disrupt airflow". If the case you pick has the p/s right at the top - I've had good results putting a fan into the front of the p/s to push it out the back, as well as adding a blowhole.
With cases where the p/s is a little lower, adding a fan above the p/s works as well, if not better than a blowhole.

Depending on the case, how clean your wiring is, will effect how well the blow hole impact the over all cooling of your system. I've seen where a side fan in combination with front/rear messes things up.

If it helps in your case, go for it - I'm not sure if there is a way to tell before you cut... :(

Hmm...Whats a duct mod? Would that be putting a piece of plastic tubing over a certain part and channeling it out of the case? Because my current computer (a dell) has that.

Also - Does having a fan on the side window improve airflow?

In the $80 price range I would recommend the Antec SLK-3700BQE. The last time I bought one from the egg it was $86 plus shipping. It's quiet, has good airflow and comes with a decent temp controlled Antec 350watt PSU. For the price I don't think this case can be beat if you're in the market for a nice, quiet case without windows and lights.

I can vouch for the BQE...Really glad I got this one instead of the Sonata. Heavy as hell, but quiet, solid, and scratch resistant :D

Any chance i can get it without the psu, since thats probably not going to be enough for my system?

Also - I found this on newegg. Case
Its identical to the chieftec case I want but since they dont have the cheiftec in stock, is this the same - just without the chieftec logo?

Edit #2 - Is there a version with a window? The soho file server ones look just like the chieftec as well. Are they huge or something that I shouldn't buy one?
