I am looking for a LCD monitor/TV for my family room that will play PC Games and look great and also be a great TV.

I have never used anything besides a monitor for my PC so this is all new to me.

Does anyone make an LCD that is around 50" and has a great picture for movies/TV/PC games/PC Windows.

I would also like one tht does the same thing for my bedroom in a 37" to 42".

Is this possible to get the same level of detail on a screen that big while playing PC games that I do on my normal 24" Dell 2407wfp?

Thanks.

Budget is $5000 max for the 50".

Without paying more then 5000$ I doubt you will find a LCD around 50" that can go higher then 1920x1080 (which is what you will need to experience the same detail as your 2407wfp, since the LCD would be so much bigger).

Yea, for the most part, bigger then 30" displays all have a 1920x1080 resolution and are marketed as TV's.

Hell, at 50" you probably won't care either way.

Yah, I was just looking into the 50 inch LCDs and they are pretty much all 1900x1080....

Would games still look good on this? Would Windows even be usable or too fuzzy?

1920x1080 is a pretty large resolution, why would Windows be unusable? Your Dell is 1920x1200, only 120 pixels taller.

That is why I am asking...

But I was just assuming when you stretched that resolution over another 26" or so it might be unreadable in windows.... I have no idea so I was asking if anyone has one and what it is like.

I'm confused, nothing is being stretched. You just want to make sure to get one that does 1:1 pixel mapping or you will get some weird over/under-scan issues.

Any particular reason it has to be LCD? Plasmas are pretty much same price and same power per sq.in. as LCDs, and I personally prefer their picture quality, deeper blacks, better viewing angles, etc...

You will definitely want an HD TV that has low input lag, that would be on my list of priorities if you're planning on a large HD TV for a primary monitor for your computer.

By "stretched", he's referring to the fact that the pixels themselves are much much larger so they can fill the larger screen area.

However, one would normally be sitting much further back with a 50" than a 24". So in effect, it pretty much amounts to nothing.

5k is a lot for an lcd tv.
i say grab the old ln55a950.
if you want something that looks cool the un55b7000 is really sleek, but is edge lit so you're trading a little picture quality for it.

Yeah, $5000 should be plenty to get a Kuro. There's also that new 65" Panasonic V series plasma for well less than that, which is quite a break through...

(Bigger is definitely better for appreciating 1080P detail at TV viewing distances...)
