Longest you consecutively left on your computer?

The only reason my server or main comp would ever shut down is if there is a power failur (not UPS... yet)

That being said, i usually average 40 days, give or take a few. ^_^

On long vacations, i do shut down my main computer and unplug it.
 
My main rig's been on for months... probably since feb. It only goes a few weeks between reboots though... Windows Update lol. I generally don't turn it off, just reboot it.
The longest I've gone is well over 200 days on my server/firewall box (Linux box) between power failures. It's been up 137 now. The last time I rebooted was when I rebuilt the kernel to get the IDE CD-Burner working. I sometimes shut down my main box if I'm going to be out of town for a while, but the server just stays on.

my comp is rarely on over 16 hours a day, most of the time I restart, and I turn it off when I sleep, I just don't see the point of leaving it on to idle in irc or have my away msg or even fold(Im very casual about that, I fold when I'm browsing the web, not while sleeping.) Download: I'll leave it on for days if that's how long it takes. Longest ever was 5 days while I was running a temporary webserver.
 
I've run mine about 4 months before, then I had to take it down to install a new HDD.
 
longest i left mine on for was about 4,492,800 seconds then the power went out :(
 
it doesnt sound like begging to me. just some thing someone could do if they wanted to help someone
 
Desktops at home stay on for about 2 weeks, max uptime I've had is ~3 months.

At work we have 2 unix servers with 4 year uptimes :eek:
 
I normally keep all my machines on 24/7, but I have recently had 4 IDE drives die on me so I decided to only let my main machine run all the time. When I reconfigure my server, that will be on 24/7 as well.

I've got 16 drives between the 5 machines, 6 are IDE and 4 of those 6 are now dead, the others are SCSI and are still running great. The 2 surviving IDE drives just happen to be brand new.

So, if you leave your machine on all the time, don't be surprised when you power down and then power back up that your IDE drives don't spin up.
Oh, and all my system drives are SCSI.

i keep my PCs on all the time. if its up time without restarting, then its 29 days like the first post.

however, i usually go Months without turning my pcs off. my computer has been off once since novemeber when i installed this mobo. that was back in april when i got a new cpu and cleaned off my fans.
 
2 of my 3 computer stay on all the time.

I don't record the uptimes, I restart them both pretty frequently.

If I go on vacation, mine will be the only one left on.
 
My computer stay on for about 10 to 14 days (2 weeks) at a time. I do alot of FTPing and now started to do folding.
 
My server was up and running for 322 days. I had to install another HD so that ended trying to go for a full year. My main computer gets rebooted every few days because I'm always messing with it.

Hell, there are plenty of AthlonXP desktops with mad uptime.

I had an AMD XP 1200 and a 750mhz die on me for no reason. Xp was running Windows XP and the 750 was running linux. I'm guessing (hopping) quality has improved but I'm still not going back to AMD. I from Miami and currently studying in Spain (for a while) and this is not the US where you can just walk into any store and buy a CPU. There for I keep my system as reliable as I can, who in their right mind wants a CPU that will die just by having the system on for a second and no CPU fan on it.
 
on my XP box it's about a month, due to updates a reboot is needed....

The Thermalright SLK 900 can be run for a bit with no fan, but it's not very safe (silent, though :cool: ). It's not a matter of not having a fan at all, I've just forgotten to plug it in. :rolleyes:
 
i always leave my server up, but if i was going away for 3 weeks i'd turn my pc off even 2 weeks or 1.
 
I had a pair of Windows NT Server 4.0 boxes up for about 200 days. Had to restart when I changed from NT4 to Windows 2000. :)

Longest my desktop has been up on Windows 98SE was 8 days.

Longest on XP has been 61 days.

Definitely. Like I said earlier, I had a dream the night before that I came back and the house was on fire. I'm not risking that, or even any damage to the system caused by a surge or something. :)
 
i'm currently setting a record uptime for myself.. been up for over 23 days now.. about 3 times longer than my previous record, thanks to my ups saving me a few times... my pc hasnt been turned off for a period of time (other than reboot) for a very very long time.. last was when i switched to watercooling

if i was gonna be going outta town for a few weeks though.. i'd definitely shut it off.. never know what could happen
