lol, cracking games illegal?

since my last thread was "dethreaded," i have to reply by post a whole new thread. (what sillyness):rolleyes:

last i knew, it was only illegal to play pirated games, not crack games you own and play. the fact that I am a programmer (hence where i would gain experience), and want to crack a game that isn't even produced anymore, nor is the company that made it even around anymore, i would think, would keep you guys off my nuts.

Again, here is my original post for any would be helpful people out there. . .

I don't know why, but as of lately I'm interested in learning how to crack my System Shock 2 game. I was wondering where I should start? I don't actually want to download a crack for it, I want to make my own. Should I do it with a Hex-editor or something else?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

and please don't flame me, I'm just doing this for own personal usage and experience.

Whether it is technically legal or not, it is generally bad form to talk about it on here.

However, if you would have asked about hex editing or patching in general, you may have had better luck, but everyone knows your intent now, so.........

It's better to just search google

Maybe later in life, after you have learned to read, write, spell and count, you will have more success. True, these are rudimentary skills that many of us normal people take for granted that everyone has an easy time of mastering. But we sometimes forget there are "challenged" persons in this world who find these things more difficult. If I had known that this was your case then I would never have read your thread. It just wouldn't have been right. Sort of like parking in a handicapped space.

I wish you the best of luck in the emotional and social struggles that seem to be placing such a demand on you.

Since the DMCA came into effect, it's definately illegal in the US, where this forum is based.
 
Dude, who cares?

I think this guy just wants to hex edit his SS2 savegames. There's nothing particularly evil about that, even if does run afoul of some reverse engineering clause in some musty old EULA for a company that doesn't even exist anymore.

Of course, hex editing things is also boring. So mlar.

He says he wants to make a crack, not a savegame editor or trainer.
 
When a thread is closed or moved out of public viewing it is done with a purpose and beginning another thread on the same topic is the same as slapping an Admin/Moderator in the face with a cold wet fish. I strongly suggest that you drop the subject ;)
