Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.

Is it true that once you recieve this item, you have to play this constantley for around 2 hours on mid volume for the sub rubber to stretch or something?
Also how far should you keep this away from your computer because of the hard drive?
You shouldnt need to worry about where you place it as the drive units are shielded.
All loudspeakers need time to run in so they sound their best.
Its not a matter of stretching the rubber, just removing the stiffness associated with newly created rubber.
I'd say a run in of around 200 hours is needed to get near optimal results.
You can use it as normal just dont push it too loud for a while.
If there are any rough edges on the coil/magnet assembly they will wear down to leave a nice smooth running system if run in well.
Ok ignore the previous question as ive figured its optical.
I have an X-fi xtrememusic card (creative) and from reading reviews, ive read that digital via optical is better but does this connection on the Z5500s control deck go straight to the sound card? If so i dont think this sound card supports optical and coaxial for that matter.
How does optical connection with the z5500s work. As u can see i am a noob but am interested to learn this. Does the optical connection run throughout each speaker to the control deck to the sound card or is the control deck to the sound card connection different?
Hope i havent confused you. Or should i just stick to the standard direct connections that they supply cables for to my soundcard (analogue i believe) and would it make a big difference?
Assuming you want surround sound in games with those speakers you will want to stick to the analogue connections. The digital will only output 2.1 or pass through previously encoded surround audio (like Dolby Digital/DTS from DVDs).
Digital via optical is no different sonicly from Digital via coaxial connection.
Well, there is a difference, optical cables arent as long, cost more and break easily
If you are comparing Digital with Analogue connections, the quality is going to depend on how good the D/A (Digital to Analogue) converters are in the sound card and the Speaker amp.
If the D/A converter in the Amp is better than the sound card then a digital feed to the Amp will likely sound better.
There is another issue though.
As you have a 5.1 system you will probably be wanting full 5.1 sound in windows, movies and games.
If you use Digital out from the XiFi, you will get 5.1 sound in Movies encoded with AC3/DTS etc.
Unfortunately as there is no AC3 conversion on the Xifi, it cannot convert 5.1 game sounds etc to a 5.1 Digital stream.
This means that using the Digital out from the XiFi will give you stereo in games. Its not possible for the XiFi to give 5.1 game sound Digitally.
